Praise for Dog Training

” When I first reached out to Deena for dog training, Ms. Tilly (our dog) would constantly pull while on leash. Walks were becoming frustrating for both of us. After spending time with Deena, I now have a better understanding of Ms. Tilly’s behaviors and how to connect with her. Deena educated me on how to teach Ms. Tilly to walk with a “loose leash” through the use of praise and treats as rewards. Deena also helped guide me on the proper harness to purchase and nutrition to help with her dry coat. Thank you Deena for sharing your expertise and knowledgeable help!”     Review written by Lonito C., Lake... read more

Cat Sitting Exceeded Our Expectations!

“We used Deena as our pet sitter for the first time over the holidays and she exceeded our expectations!! She took fantastic care of our 2 cats and our lab. The cats had totally behaved and Stella was actually a little spoiled from all of the great walks she got. Deena was great about responding to my check in texts quickly and she also sent pics of the animals so we could see how they were doing. I would recommend her to anyone – you will happy and your pets will be too!!!”   Yelp review written by Shannon L., Lake... read more

Ian Dunbar, Dog-Friendly Dog Training

Speaking at the 2007 EG conference, trainer Ian Dunbar asks us to see the world through the eyes of our beloved dogs. By knowing our pets’ perspective, we can build their love and trust. It’s a message that resonates well beyond the animal world. Love this man’s work. ~Deena Read more >  ... read more

Three Tips for Anxious/Barking Dogs

“Here are three tips for you if you have a worried dog who barks or reacts problematically when he/she sees another dog: 1. Don’t punish a dog who barks aggressively at another dog. If he’s barking because he’s scared, (and most are!) it will just make him worse.  Just turn and walk away if your dog’s behavior is problematic. 2. Teach your dog to look at you on cue when there is nothing to distract him, and then gradually begin to ask him to do so when he sees another dog.  Be sure to use something that your dog really wants as a reinforcement. Food is great, but backing up and then playing a tug game is even better because it also relieves tension. Don’t ask for too much too soon! If your dog spits out the food and keeps barking, you are too close to the other dog. 3. Don’t hesitate to manage the situation to help your dog stay out of trouble: Walk when it’s quiet; cross the street if another dog might get too close; and use every opportunity you can to reinforce calm and quiet behavior. ”  ~Deena Lavine, Owner and Professional Dog Trainer at Daily Visits Pet Sitting Read more... read more

Be Prepared: A Tiny First Aid Kit for Hiking With Dogs

Originally posted on September 5, 2012 by Kelsey on Team UnRuly’s blog here: http://teamunruly.com/?p=748: I do a lot of stuff with my dogs, but if for some reason (weird bet? evil genie? blackmail?) I was forced to only pick one activity to do with them for the rest of my life, there’s no question in my mind: we’d hike. I looooove hiking with my dogs. We’ve lived in a lot of different places in North America, and hiking has been a wonderful constant; because we move so much, there are always different places to go and different things to see, and it’s a fantastic way to get to know a new area. And it makes the dogs really happy: they are seasoned hikers and campers at this point, and they love being out in the world. This week’s hikeventure at Madera Canyon. I tend to pack pretty light when I hike, a holdover from my occasional backpacking trips where I have to be careful about every single ounce. Because I’m usually carrying a fair bit of water (I live in the desert, after all!), the things that I take tend to be light, compact, adaptable to many different conditions, and above all else, practical. In practice, what this meant is I used to skimp on first aid gear: every hiking guide tells you that you MUST bring first aid stuff with you, especially if you’re hiking with pets, but it’s easy to rationalize that, eh, it’s just a day hike, you’ve got your phone, you’re near enough to civilization, you don’t really need to bring that much with you. Integrity, Reliable, Trustworthy

“I’ve hired Daily Visits Pet Sitting many times over the last 7 years. Not only did Deena take our dog for several walks every day but she also took excellent care of our other pets (cats and chickens), prized vegetable garden and lawns.  She sat with our cat daily and made her feel loved, brought in our mail, checked on the house and more.  One winter she even walked two miles through the snow to check on my pets and house. We can’t recommend her highly enough!” Yelp review written by Frederique L., Lake Oswego... read more
